Stairs. So many stairs. And rocks. So many rocks.
This trail gets very steep on the second half headed up. And between the stairs and rocks all along the steep portion, it felt like it took nearly as long going down as it did going up. You have to watch nearly every step placement on the way down.
But the lake was gorgeous in spite of the haze of wildfire smoke all around. We skipped the bridal veil falls side trail adventure. Thought we might hit it on the way down but by the time we got back to it we quickly decided to skip the extra vertical.
Several reports mentioned the falls were a trickle, but those were apparently referring to the second bridal veil falls on the main trail. Those falls had barely any water. But based on the water flow in the main creek the upper bridal veil falls have a pretty good water flow going still. The views of the water coming down that drainage were impressive even through the trees.
I'm looking forward to going back next year, in spite of the steep trail, so I can see clearer distant views and the far side of the lake with no smoke. Definitely put a damper on the day with all the haze in the air. But still beat working!
