Larch madness! Great hike! Pretty crowded but that's expected. Expect to park along the freeway unless you are crazy early or hiking second or third "shift." Larches are really popping. Some in advanced color stages, some just starting. I really like this hike because you groove right through groves and groves of larches. The larches aren't super far away like in some other larch hikes. You could literally touch them (please don't tho). The lake is really impressive with a massive rock cirque peppered with yellowing larches. There is a little "Tarn Loop" that you can explore. I highly recommend doing this. Great new views of the area and some solitude. We saw a lone mallard diving in the tarn. Saw no other people on this loop. There is also a the ruin of an old log cabin up here. I wonder what this cabin was originally for or when it was built?
Happy trails!
