Did the long approach to Pyramid Peak from Longmire. Long day planned so I left early hiking in dark. Trail through Kautz creek was a bit difficult to follow with headlamp but it was there, if you aren't sure if you are on the trail any more then you probably aren't, just retrace and pick it up. Beautiful sunny skies at Indian Henry's, trail is a bit swampy for a couple of hundred yards after the Mirror Lake and Wonderland Junction. Surprised a bear at the large open meadow just before starting the climb to Pyramid. The bear loped off a short distance and continue feasting on berries. The trail after here is steep and rugged but easy to follow, it will carry you all the way but the last couple hundred vertical feet to the summit. Here the boot path disappears in rock but the route is obvious. By the time I arrived at the summit the peak had become completely enveloped in clouds but I still had nice views to the south.
Just under 18 miles round trip with 4,800' of gain
