The trail begins near the Deer Park Campground. The ranger finished cleaning the toilet as we parked nearby. The road up has some washboarding, a few potholes, and many blind corners, but it is wide enough in most places for vehicles to pass. The trail begins with a long descent before starting the mostly upward trek to Maiden Peak. Of course, this is an uphill slog on the return trip. The trail is well-maintained with only a few roots or rocky sections. The ridge walk is pleasant with peek-a-boo views of the mountains. The trail crosses alpine grass meadows along the approach to the Maiden Peak side trail. This is not signed; look for a small tree next to the trail and an arrow made of stones. The climb to the peak is steep with some loose rock areas so poles are helpful here. The views from the top are spectacular and expansive. There are 2 geological markers in the rock. We lunched here before returning back to Deer Park trailhead.
