Trip Report

Tumwater Pipeline Trail — Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - East

It’s become my mid-October tradition to hike this trail on my way to Wenatchee’s Confluence State Park. Foliage is beautiful beyond words along the US-2 corridor right now, and this trail is no exception. Having visited Vermont last week, I must say this year foliage in the Cascades is far superior.

Parking lot had enough openings at noon. Note that bathrooms are closed.

The trail starts leisurely and remains mostly flat for about 1.5 miles until it reaches a rockslide. Last year, rocks were slick after rain and I turned around; this time, I went forward to only find that the trail turns into a series of steep (use of installed ropes required) ups and downs, and deteriorates and pretty much disappears soon. I never reached the formal end of the trail, choosing to turn around soon after the rockfall site.
