Quick drive from Bellingham up to Artist Point and Heather Meadows to enjoy the blue skies and first snow of the season.
At 11:30a, the lot at Artist Point was practically full. The roads are clear but the parking lot is full if ice/slush/snow which made for pretty terrible parking. The sun was shining and views were amazing. Trail are snow covered and icy in spots. Just wanted around a little up there before heading back the Heather Meadows parking lot.
There were about a dozen cars at Heather Meadows. I did the loop counter clockwise with our dog. The east side of the trail was mostly snow free and in the sun with fall colors all around. The west side of the way back was more shaded and definitely had some slick spots and more snow cover. Did it just trail runners and no poles, but had to be real careful passing the little waterfall section as the rocks were coated in ice. Trails were a bit muddy in spots but nothing crazy.
Hard to believe this will all be covered in snow soon and the road to artist point closed. Glad I took advantage of a nice day to get up there.
