We took a quick hike before heading off to catch the ferry.
We parked near the marina and hiked up to the top through the disc golf course.
It was actually pretty easy to lose the trail if we weren’t paying attention because it’s covered with so many big leaf maple leaves and there are so many small way paths because of the disc golf course.
The official route up has crushed gravel, so it is easy to differentiate from the way paths, if you watch for that.
No disc golfers today. My husband says he heard from the local players that it’s hard to play there at this time of year because the discs get lost in the leaves. I could totally see that.
I loved the unexpected and charming art along the trail.
The view from the top was splendid. Two bald eagles, one adult and one juvenile, were soaring overhead.
There were also a bunch of small songbirds in the trees. I didn’t have a chance to get a good look because we needed to catch the ferry. If you’re a birder, be sure to bring your binoculars.
From the marina parking lot, we also spotted more than a dozen blue heron flying around. I’m guessing they must have a rookery nearby.
There is a restroom nearby, but it is under construction. There’s a trailer next to it that looks like it has toilets, but they require a code.
