Putney Woods, Saratoga Woods and Metcalf Trail System — Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025

Puget Sound and Islands > Whidbey Island
Moss Valley Trail

2-mile, clockwise loop connecting several trails (incl Dirty Pants, Moss Valley, and Coyote), starting from the Putney Woods trailhead off Lone Lake Rd.

Road Conditions. Paved road. Portable toilet.

Trail Conditions. No obstacles, some patches of mud. Trail junctions were signed, but a map was useful, given the many trails.

Highlights. Pleasant trails through a forest full of mosses, salal, and evergreen-huckleberries (some of which were borderline ripe).

Crowds. ~15 cars in the huge parking lot at 2 PM. Encountered half a dozen parties on the trails, all on foot (though we did also see fresh horse and bike tracks).
