It was a beautiful day, and Annette Lake was a great choice for where to spend it. The trail is largely shaded, and while steep in sections, it was in relatively good shape. There are a couple of minor blowdowns and some water runoff on the trail, along with some minor snow on the trail as you approach the top (no traction devices needed), but welcome to early winter in the Cascades.
The trail wasn’t too crowded in the morning, but became more so as the day went on. More than a few people with dogs as well (all well behaved).
The sun didn’t get over the peaks at the lake while I was there, but the backlit mountains made for a beautiful effect. A bit windy and cold at the lake, I only hung out for about 30 minutes before heading back down.
The road is severely potholed (be careful as you come off the bridge, there is a big hole right there that is hard to see). High clearance isn’t necessary, but take your time and use caution.
