Such a hikeable grade and smooth tread to boot! Trail was not muddy. Highway sounds fade away the higher up you get.
Suggest to take a pic of the detour route heading up past the start of the actual trail. There is signage along the detour route to guide hikers except at the fork of Juniper and Laurel, even though both paths join up with Margaret’s Way. No detour signage on Margaret’s way on the descent.
Saw the typically-expected Pacific Wren and Douglas Squirrel along the way with a bonus mixed-foraging-flock of Black-capped Chickadees and their allies. But it wasn’t ‘til just before the gate to the parking lot that I hit the jackpot. Almost stepped on the little feller; a Roughskin Newt!
