Mountains, mushrooms, a river and best views by a dam site! We started our hike by crossing the dam at Spada Lake, using the loo located nearby, then hiking to the North Shore picnic area. The views from the dam were spectacular, lots of mtns surrounding the lake and a great view of the Bald Mtn summit block and ridgeline. After this short hike (1.4miles RT) we headed back to hike to the Sultan River. The first half is a pleasant road walk, and the 2nd part is a trail that switchbacks down to the river. Today there were numerous waterfalls, both on the road and on the trail. The showy one talked about in the trip description is flowing, be sure and check it out! This is the first time for me seeing the waterfalls, it has always been dry before. Stream crossings will only get your toes wet, nothing to be concerned about. There is a bit of debris on the trail from the windstorm, easily stepped over. Lots of good lunch rocks right by the river, enjoy! Be sure and stop at the registration station and fill out the form. This is in the watershed not on DNR land, so you don't need a Discover Pass here as you do for most of the Sultan Basin.
