Tatoosh Lookout — Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025

South Cascades > White Pass/Cowlitz River Valley

Amazing hike and views - one of the best I've done in the state in my opinion. The trail heats up quickly with steep, rugged switchbacks. Once you're past that, the views of surrounding peaks, meadows, and wildflowers start to open up and trail mellows out a bit. Absolutely stunning terrain.

We did the final push to the lookout in the heat of the day and fully exposed to the sun, so we were roasting by the time we reached to top. We almost turned around due to the heat, but we pushed through and were very happy we did. The view of Mt. Rainier was outstanding and we were also able to catch a glimpse of the Tatoosh Lakes below. Still somewhat snow covered even this late in the year. We found a small spot in the shade to cool off and have lunch before heading back to the cars the way we came.
