Accessible only through Canada, Point Roberts is an amazing and unique part of Washington that seldom gets visited by Americans so has no current WTA trip reports. A group of us from the Bellingham Senior Center hiked all 4 of these trails in an easy but extremely scenic day. Our total was about 5 miles for all four hikes with about 400 foot elevation gain.
The very easy Lighthouse trail goes around the point at the end of Point Roberts, providing the best views of the surrounding waters and islands.
The Monument Trail starts at the impressive Monument 1 of the USA-Canada border survey then goes down to the beach from there. Once down on the beach you can take a short walk north to the border and find the very unimpressive remains of Monument 0, the westernmost point on the 49th parallel border.
The enchanted Forest trail is an Only-In-Point Roberts whimsical trail filled with fairies and gnomes.
The Lily Point trail system is the gem of Point Roberts with several trails to choose from. We just took the most direct trail down to the beach, with stops at both the North and South overlooks. Once down to the flatlands by the beach, the trail branches both to the north and south. The North (left) trail takes you to a great beach at the bottom of the huge bluff, the best lunch or break spot. The right trail goes South and very quickly arrives at the other end of the beach. All of this area is the site of an old cannery, with lots of pictures shown to document it. At most tides it is an easy walk along the beach from one end of the trail to the other.
