We had been watching the weather forecast for the area during the days leading up to the day of hike. It had gone from sunny to ending up being cloudy. Just the same the clouds were high enough to see the local peaks: Index, Persis, Haystack and and the top of Baring's "bunny ears". The trails were in good condition, just a little seasonal water and mud that could be avoided.
The streams along the trail are running high and so the falls were flowing with more volume and noise than usual. We did the loop trail going counter clockwise when the trail splits at the fork after the first road crossing. We went a little past the junction for the climb to the vista and checked out the falls and then a bit farther east where the clearcut is for a view across the valley of Mount Index and Persis. We then retraced our route and went up to the Sky Valley Vista where we had lunch with a view.
There is parking space for about fifteen vehicles but no restroom. There is an old out house at the trailhead covered with vines and boarded up.
