Gorgeous bluebird day hiking up to the lookout at Granite with JeremyAnderson8. Lots of other people had the same idea as well to work off Thanksgiving festivities. I can confirm that there's not enough snow yet to pose avalanche danger. Consistent snow started around 4100', 2" at 4500", 6" at 5000', and around 12" at 5500".
Arrived at 9am, parking lot 75% full. Trail snow free and in good shape other than a few muddy spots. Intermittent snow started around 3500', was consistent around 4100' and grew from there. There's a well established boot path all the way to the summit, so no need for snowshoes until more snow comes. It was warm enough that we also didn't need our microspikes. We considered going up the boulder ridge, but with the foot of snow and large boulders, it seemed too dicey. Too many places where deep holes are hidden right now, until there's more snow to fill it in. Views were amazing with the snow covered slopes and trees and all the surrounding peaks and lakes. Several other parties at the summit arrived around the same time as us. Unfortunately it was a bit windy and cold, so we had to layer up and didn't end up staying too long after getting some pics and having a quick lunch. Ran into more people coming up as we descended, including several who would never get out before dark if they went all the way to the top. Ran into plenty of dogs, all of them friendly except one. You know who you are. Great hike!
Stats: 8.2 miles, 3,760' gain, 5:18 total time, 0:41 stopped time
Gear: Poles, gaiters, waterproof boots (La Sportiva Trango Tech). Brought snowshoes and microspikes but didn't need them. If it get's colder, you might want spikes. If it snows a bunch more, you might need snowshoes and also to assess the avalanche danger.
