We drove to the trailhead via Palo Alto Rd and Dungeness Forks. The road is potholed in places, and the drop down to Dungeness Forks is rutted deeply enough that high clearance is advisable, if not strictly necessary.
We parked at the lower trailhead near the bridge over the Gray Wolf. As usual, this trailhead was littered with fast food packaging and beer cans. We cleaned it up before starting our hike.
The trail was in good shape, if a bit muddy in places. We hiked 3 miles in to Cliff Camp, and then returned via the Cat Creek Trail, which was in good shape. On a crisp fall Saturday, we met one other hiker.
