Trip Report

Mount Ellinor — Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
Mount Ellinor by Kozior Goralski

This weeks report is from lower trailhead. Snow free on the trail till the last 0.1 mile to the winter turnoff. After the turnoff it’s intermittent, patchy snow on the winter route. This was the first time I had tracks to follow, which was nice. The snow was consolidated 1-4” deep and crunchy, but not compacted into ice. So pretty nice for climbing up, but not deep enough to smooth out the rocky surface.

The upper bowl was fully snow covered with firm and a bit more icy snowfield. The climb out and up to the peak was good conditions with microspikes.

Took the summer route down and it’s pretty compact and icy. Very slippery without micros on (I repouched a bit too early). Probably would have been faster descending the winter route.
