Big Tree Trail — Friday, Oct. 31, 2025

Perfect time to enjoy the fall colors and to watch the numerous salmon fighting their way up the creek to spawn!  This was the day before the annual Kitsap salmon day events that includes this location.  There were very few people and plenty of parking at the trailhead behind the Forest Theater, but the kids exploring with their parents were just as thrilled as us adults watching the fish struggling up the shallow creek.  We could hear the splashing before we even saw the stream.  Be aware that the trail down from the parking area is steep and fine for kids (look for the hidden Hobbit house!) but not suitable for those with mobility issues.
