Trip Report

Sharpe Park - Sares Head — Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area

We arrived at the TH around 8:40 and only one other car in the lot.  We took the Sares Head trail to Shelley Loop, to Machin Overlook and Brooms Tomb over to Sares Head Overlook then continued along the outer trails to Porpoise Point for our 2nd breakfast and enjoyed the view across the bay before heading back.  Great weather for a December morning.   Trails in great condition but a bit slippery from the last night's rain.  Madrone trees were plentiful and there were a lot of birds fluttering around pecking at the Madrone berries.

GPS logged 3-1/2 miles.  Loo was a little odorous but had TP.

Nice madrone! I always grew up calling them madrones, but I was recently told they're called madronas north of California. I'm not sure if it matters. But I am sure that they're neat!
