Trip Report

Camano Island State Park, Cama Beach Historical State Park — Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area
Camano Island beach all to ourselves on a windy day.

With all the flood damage in the foothills and mountains, it was a good time to head to Camano Island.  While each of these Parks doesn't have a lot of mileage, there is a nice connector trail that allows you to hike both of them for about 8 miles.

We parked at Cama beach (toilets locked but porta-potties were open).  Probably 8 other cars there.  Trails were in great shape and appeared to be recently blown off; hardly any leaves.

We looped the Bluff trail (which has nice views out onto the water) and did an out and back spur up to Cranberry Lake (more of a marsh really), before taking the connector trail over to Camano Island SP.

More clifftop trails over there, with some really nice views from the benches.  After going down to the beach to see all the new driftwood, we continued on the Loop Trail (which is 2.6miles long total).  Signage is excellent with both trail names and mileage listed at all intersections.

All day we saw nobody else with so much as a daypack on, just a handful of local dog walkers.

Peaceful Cranberry Lake
