Trip Report

Baldy — Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast

Stats: 6.2 mi, 4236 ft of elevation gain, 3:30 moving time, 4:38 total time

Road in is definitely rough. I would be conscious to take at least a 4WD vehicle while being careful of the abundance of pot holes on the forest road. The road has lots of sharp turns which should be taken with caution.

We didn't necessarily know what to expect in terms of snow coverage after the recent atmospheric river. Arrived at the trailhead around 0645, two cars in lot with lights visible on Tyler Peak. We began in the dark, which made the creek crossing slightly more difficult, however still of little trouble.

Trail up is in great condition with little to no ice or snow, and the ridge line is largely free of the same conditions. We had opted not to bring ax or crampons and just microspikes in bag. We ( correctly ) assumed that the ridge would be far too windy for an approach to Grey Wolf. Approaching East Baldy, you may want microspikes for your comfort, however they were by no means necessary. Bring proper protection for the summit, as the wind can be quite harsh.

It was a beautiful sunny day and an amazing trail which gave us little to no problems! Highly recommend.
