I did an out and back (4.6 miles) on the upper May Creek trail from the Windtree neighborhood Th to Coal Creek this afternoon to check out any rain and wind storm damage. Newcastle parks has been out recently, only small tree fronds were on the trail and evidence of bigger branches being moved to the side was all along the route. The trail is well drained and there were no muddy areas. I was surprised to see an official looking foot bridge at the creek bottom near Windtree. One of the wooden board walks was super slippery down near Boren Creek. I like this time of the year when the deciduous trees leaves are on the ground and you have a clear view into the remaining tree canopy. The trail was busier than usual and I passed 15 other users, including a fat tire biker and a road biker avoiding the SE May Valley road closure. Wildlife included a red breasted sapsucker and 2 juncos. Another fantastic day out in nature.
