Trip Report

Mount Si — Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area

Spectacular day up Si today, as I caught glimpses of that exceedingly rare blue in the sky. New trail up and down. Trail was in great condition given the recent storms. Definitely evidence of damage, but with one exception, everything was cleared. The one exception could have been old treefall and just required a duck to get under.

The trail was quite damp and muddy, but snowfree until about 3,000 ft. At first it was just a slushy covering, which made the going a bit slow and slippery. Finally about 1/3 mile from the top, more snow appeared, and traction was better. Many tree bombs were falling, so it's a good idea to bring waterproof gear even if it's not raining. The boulder field probably has about 5-6 inches. A couple paths were evident, but care was still needed to ensure the footing was stable and that you wouldn't twist an ankle by stepping on top of a gap.

Since I had started early, the summit was pretty quiet. Of course, the aggressive jays were out, diving at you and your food. The wind was bitter and cold, but the beauty of the snow coating the trees and somewhat visible scenery made up for it.

As a precaution, I put on microspikes for a little ways during the decent. With additional traffic, the path was losing its powdery covering and had turned quite slick. Once back to Slushland, I took them off and just accepted the slide on down. I was grateful to have poles, which were helpful in preventing a big ole backwards fall. I had gaiters but didn't need 'em.

Not super busy today, even though it wasn't raining!
