Beautiful snowshoe trip up Pratt Mountain.
Packed snow from the start of the trail (I started from Pratt Lake Trailhead). I put snowshoes on shortly after crossing the bridge on the Talapus Cutoff Trail. I then broke trail up the mountain to the Mount Defiance Trail where it was then packed down again. Instead of heading directly to the ridge, I followed the Mount Defiance Trail west, and then connected with some tracks around 4600 feet of elevation which led to the summit. Of note, there are sun-exposed aspects on the Mount Defiance Trail where caution and observation of the snowpack is warranted. I didn’t experience any concerning instability on my outing, but that could change with the changing weather in the coming days.
Stats: 10 miles | 3300 ft gain
