This turned out to be a very nice hike / snowshoe on a very nice day. I parked at the end of Hathaway Road on a nice pullout for a couple of cars at a DNR gate. There was some DNR signage that started road was open to non- motorized use. This is mostly a logging road walk, but this hike has some great views along the way, especially to the west.
The road becomes snow covered a bit past 2000ft and gradually becomes deeper. At around 2925ft look for a bike trail to the right. This is the route you want to take to get to a upper road. This trail is actually quite nice, and even has a foot bridge built across a small creek. Once out on this upper road the snow was about 4-5”. Since I didn’t have my gaiters(oops) I put on snowshoes on here. Up around 3400ft I headed straight up the clear cut the 900ft vertical to the summit. This worked out great as I stayed on top of the snow and all the clear cut mess. At around 200ft below the summit I entered the forest, and after a bit I was on the road just below the summit and the radio towers. The summit has a great view of Mount Baker among other peaks.
Started at 8:35am and finished at 1:40pm. 12.5 miles with 3900ft gain.Excellent day!
