Guillemot Cove — Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Kitsap Peninsula

Our second time to Guillemot Cove for 3 of us. First time for T.

We ate lunch in Poulsbo first. The bakery had a long line out the door and was packed inside. We didn't have enough sunlight left to wait it out. On to the Cove!

The parking lot was empty (around 2:30pm?) except for 2 other vehicles. A Kitsap County Park vehicle had 2 workers with chainsaw leaving as we came in. Thank you!

It's all downhill heading on the trail to Saw Mill Trail, Margaret Trail to the kiosk and then across the Meadow to the Beach Trail. Birdwatcher T slowed down through this section to look through their new binoculars.

Arriving at the beach, the birdwatching commenced in earnest. There were about 8+ others on the beach while we were there.

Surf scoters, common goldeneyes, bald eagle, glaucous winged gulls, spotted towhee, American robins, golden crowned kinglets, cormorant, and possibly some grebes

On the way out, we hiked back to the Stump House. This was muddy, not horribly so but somewhat gooey. The Stump looks a bit more weathered from when we first saw it in April of 2024.

It still looks like a big nose to me, now with a mustache of Western Sword Ferns at it's tip.

We took the same trails back up and out on the return. Around 3 miles.
