This was a fool's errand, and I was the perfect fool to give it a go. This is a bike trail that crosses Silver Creek then turns right steeply uphill while the creek goes left. To reach the falls stay with the creek. The 'trail' is a terrible bushwhack on the left and right side at the beginning and you'll have to cross the creek a few times, whichever offers the path of least resistance. The right side being a bushwhack and the left side offering half submerged rocks and some muddy bank the rest of the way. I mostly bushwhacked on the way up but stayed near the creek on the way back which worked much better. There were quite a few little side creeks as well. Waterproof boots and poles are a must. When I reached the old 1930's dam the only way around was up the steep hillside left but it was crumbly sandstone, mud, and debris that was too slick to ascend. I went far enough to peak over the dam and the waterfall looked like a trickle anyway.
I wouldn't recommend it but for those stubborn enough to try, traveling south I exited N. Lake Samish Drive, went right over the freeway, and turned right on Samish Way. There's parking on the shoulder before the closed gate. Hike down the road and take the second trail left.
