I decided to spend the night....New Years night.
The road to the trailhead is miserable. Huge potholes this season. The trailhead parking lot is a sheet of ice. Remember you need a snow park permit to use the lot.
The trail from the parking lot to the lake is well established and compacted. Snowshoes are not required. Hiking poles are. Microspikes would be useful.
The five avalanche shoots appeared safe. It's supposed to rain soon so that may change.
I went left of the lake when I arrived. I was surprised I had to break trail. I didn't have the lake to myself. A few people slept on the other side of the lake. They were very respectful and quite. The lake is frozen over. Please stay off the lake. SAR's would appreciate that advice.
I had a peaceful sleep. Low temperature was 27. Not bad at all.
I was back at my vehicle at 10 am. I only saw three others hiking in.
