Summit shot

Date: Sunday 12/28/2025

Arrival Time: 8:30a

Number of cars upon arrival:0

Weather conditions: 39 degrees, overcast, dry with exception of a brief snow flurry as we gained elevation.

Last time we hiked the trail: Many years. It's been so long we cannot remember

Trail grade and tread: It's an uphill climb but the grade and tread are decent.  There is a section in the upper half through a scree slope with rockfall/rockslide, that could cause you to lose the actual trail.  On the return we noticed there is an arrow painted on a tree to keep you on track, so keep an eye out for that on the way up.

After Mitchell point we walked East through the tunnel and continued down the road for a bit before returning and passing the parking area to head West on the highway trail.  This is our first trip here since this section of the highway trail has been completed.

Hike features: 360 views at the top

Wildlife: Eagles

Number of cars upon return: 5 upon return from Mitchell Point just before 10am, and several more upon return from walking the new section of the Columbia River Gorge Highway trail around 11am.

Mileage: 4.36
