I can't believe it took me this long to visit Whatcom Falls. It's incredible that there are waterfalls of such magnitude within Bellingham city limits. It's hard to get a sense of scale in photos of waterfalls, and I had visualized Whatcom Falls as a cute little drop of about 1/4 of its true size. In fact, it's on par with Lower Lewis and was really raging on Sunday.
Whirlpool Falls a short distance downstream is beautiful too. We were time limited so only went to those two falls. Plenty of joggers and dog walkers out but it never felt crowded. On the way back, we saw two kayakers drop in below Whatcom Falls.
