Started up the Mt Si Old trail about 8am this morning. The trail was wet through the first 2.6 miles and then turned to snow for the remainder of the hike. As I got closer to the top, the trees started raining ice drops on the trail and it was nice to have a hat on to soften the blow. The last 1/3 mile of the hike had mushy wet snow with water running down the trail; but where the new trail and old trail merge the snow was well packed and easy to hike. I hiked over to the overlook, and it was a winter wonderland; but a little gray. As I hiked back from the overlook, the sun came out for about 5 minutes, and I was able to get some nice pictures of the mountain.
I had spikes and poles; but didn't use them. It probably would have been a good idea to get them out for hiking over the boulders to the overlook and for the first part of the descent; but while it was slippery, I did manage to stay upright. Reminder that it's probably 10-15 degrees colder at the top then the bottom of the mountain. I was really glad that I had a hat, gloves and jacket at the top.
