Trip Report

Tiger Mountain Trail North, Nook Trail, Section Line Trail, West Tiger Railroad Grade, Seattle View Trail & K-3 Trail — Monday, Jan. 12, 2026

Issaquah Alps > Tiger Mountain
Stunning views today

Main Tiger notes today: the Tiger Mountain Trail was extremely muddy and slippery today between Anschell's Alley (near the bridges) and the main Tradition Plateau parking lot. The Nook/Section Line Trail was the most weather resistant and the most sheltered from today's wind.

More details:

I did a big loop up Nook / Section Line, then took the W Tiger Railroad Grade over to Seattle View and went up to the saddle between W Tiger 3 and 2. The usual amazing views off of Seattle View Trail were clouded over today.

I avoided the peaks due to high wind. Route down was Tiger Mt Trail, the Railroad Grade, K-3 and back on the Tiger Mt Trail to the parking lot.

The Seattle View Trail and the West Tiger Railroad Grade were both brushy in a lot of places. I was in water resistant gear, but my feet and legs got pretty wet.

The section of the West Tiger Railroad Grade between the Tiger Mt Trail and K-3 was particularly overgrown and had one very large blowdown on the trail (last pic with poles for scale). I probably should have skipped that section and done the top part of K-3 instead.

Total for this version of the loop was 7.5 miles and 2200' of elevation.
