9 of us from the Mountaineers did the snowshoe trip today at Mt. Rainier NP. We reached the Longmire gate at 8:30 am, The gate opened at 9.
A lot of cars queued on the road and from the National Inn parking side.
Roads are all fine, no ice or snow. It felt like driving in summer!
We started our hike at around 9:30.
we put on our snowshoes right from the beginning. it was very slick icy though, the entire first section of the route.
After we reached the Junction to take the high route, we got loose snow. but some of the sections of the High route are steep and require good reactions with your Snowshoes.
We took the high route to the Faraway rock and went down towards the Reflection Lakes..the only thing this Lake was reflecting today is the sunlight. 😂 completely frozen.
We briefly walked on the Stevens canyon road and then took the trail to go back to Narada falls parking lot.
The river of the Narada falls was frozen in most of the places, the color of the water was so different, yet frightening.
Route finding skill is definitely needed for this hike, there were a few times when we had to correct our tracks to stay on the trail.
But it was a beautiful day out there!
Although sad to see so many exposed rocks on the Mountain. 🥲
Parodying a song by Rolling Stones - "I see a mountain and I want it painted white." ❄️
5.66 miles with 1266 feet of gain.
We took 4.5 hours, including a 30 minute break at the Faraway rock in the sun. ( it was really warm up there )
