This is a really beautiful trail. The forest is lush and healthy. The tread is in excellent condition. The lake was glassy and reflected its surroundings like a mirror.
I started on the trail about 3pm. This might explain why I saw less than a dozen other users. The sky looked like a setup for an excellent sunset so I left my visit to the overlook for the return trip. I was not disappointed. With every five minutes after the sun dropped below the horizon the sky became more brilliant with color. Because the forest was darker than the open view point, I left after about twenty minutes and the colors were still intensifying. When the trail to the parking lot turned west, some of this was visible through the trees. With a headlamp the trail would be easy to hike in the dark. I wish I had brought a headlamp so I could have lingered longer at the view point.
