North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
The Stillaguamish River
Arrived at the pull out parking off of Mountain Loop Highway around 2:00 pm. When we arrived a family with a minivan warned us that they had three windows broken out while they were on the trail. We decided to park across the street in an area that seemed more lit. The trail itself was in good condition, some recent work was done bushwacking the overgrowth onto the trail. Passed three groups of people, (all teens, early twenties)one group appeared to have possibly hiked down to the river to bathe. There were a few wet spots on the trail and the two tunnels we passed through were great. There is one rock slide before the tunnels but the boulders were easily passable. We then encountered a big slide after the second tunnel and after some experimenting decided to turn back. Was back at the car by 5:30 pm. The river is beautiful and moving pretty swift. There were a few spots where the trail came close to the ledge, no problems if you are careful.
