The great weather lured me into the mountains today. Decided to try to get to High Rock. The drive up was uneventful until about 1 mile from the trailhead, snow started there and got about 18 to 24 inches deep. It was rutted and required a high clearance 4x4 to navigate. There is snow all the way from the trailhead to the lookout. At times it was nearly thigh high. The usual quick trip in the summer took about twice as long as normal. View was spectacular as usual. And not a soul on the trail all the way up and back. There is one large tree down over the trail that needs to be climbed over.

High Rock

Hello! My name is Chris Otto, and I checked your review because I'm looking to backpack (just 2 days 1 night) somewhere in the Southeastern Cascades over the week of Thanksgiving. I'll be visiting some family in the Tri-cities and, looking at a map, realized that there's a not-so-far-away nook in between Rainier, St. Helens, and Adams. So I started looking for good hikes, and it seems like HIGH ROCK is the way to go!

What do you think? Did you snowshoe / XC in or just hoof it? I like the idea of the tower at the top, and I would really be interested in staying in one overnight. Any thoughts on that? Just looking for a moderate hike, overnight tent camping, and spectacular views. Email me findchrisotto[at]gmail[dot]com

Thanks
