This was a fantastic hike! We ran into a few people who were partying at the campsite at the midpoint of the lake, but other than that, there was no one around. There are three or four trees across the trail but nothing you can't easily climb over. There's one spot in the marshy area where the shrubs are encroaching on the trail a little, but otherwise it is very well maintained. There are several very nice bridges on the far side of the lake as well. The old growth forest is very beautiful, and there are some huge trees.
Do not attempt to get to the trailhead without a map - the forest roads in this area are very tangles and interconnected and its easy to get lost. The roads aren't too bad - we didn't encounter too many potholes the entire way there. All in all, if you want to get the feeling that you are in the middle of the wilderness while still taking on a relatively easy hike, I would highly recommend this one. We actually saw a black bear cub on drive back out!
