Views from the Balcony
Happy 4th of July, 2011. Gorgeous day in the PNW! Gate closed, entrance to the trail obscured a bit (2nd concrete barrier needs to be exposed, just grown over with grasses), Very rocky trail most of the way. Hard to believe it was ever a "road". Bridge ok but has deterioriated from other photos we saw. Needs work. Steady incline on the trail, shaded most of the way, some water on trail but fairly dry. Look for the cairns and rusty can at the intersection. Blowdowns really obscure the early part of the trail once you arrive there. Need to skirt around them. when we decended the Balcony did walk up to try to find the museum but to no avail and got tired of walking on rocks. Heard there were better instructions available to find the museum from other hikers. Saw wildflowers and berries beginning to form. Also miners lettuce and false miners lettuce.
