Went on this hike knowing that it was gonna be a doozy. It did not disappoint. This is a steep and strenuous hike, and if you are a casual type hiker or unaccustomed to inclines, it may just put you in your place. It did to me. I hike regularly, but this was an intense workout with a constant upward climb. Several hikers along the way told us they were conditioning to climb Mt Rainer, and I easily believe it. The weather was warm and the bugs were out in full force. It was a dilemma because I needed frequent breaks, but when I would stop the mosquitoes would start digging in. Definitely a hike to do in the fall. We made it as far as Horsecamp before the loop to the summit, so we were resoundingly defeated my this trek. The clouds were very thick around the summit and we feared that our exertions would be for nothing. Another day when the air is crisp and cold and the sky is clear as can be, this hike will be conquered by me. But not today.
