Mount Rainier Area > NW - Carbon River/Mowich
The entrance into the meadow. Avalanche lilies were abundant (though you don't see it much in this picture)! It's such a beautiful picturesque area.
Our hiking party left Spanaway at 8am and we arrived at the Mowich Lake campground just before 10am. The camp wasn't crowded with campers, but the parking stretched quite a ways along the road. The day turned out to be a great day for hiking---sunny, clear skies and a nice cool temp at the start of our hike. The trail is in good condition and the signage easy to spot. We didn't encounter any issues on this hike. Another hiker, that we passed, told us about the Eagle Cliff viewpoint and I'm glad she did. The view of Mt Rainier and the surrounding area is gorgeous! Spray Falls was a nice reprieve from the heat (by this time is was noon-ish). The mist from the falls felt so nice and refreshing! We continued on to the meadow. Just before reaching the clearing are some switchbacks. They aren't too steep, compared to some of the other hikes I've been on, but it seemed to go on forever. I think I was just too excited to see the meadow full of wildflowers.
We saw this little bear about to walk into the meadow. Luckily, some guys saw it and started to yell for the bear to stop. It sat just at the edge of the meadow watching all of us staring back at it. Mama bear did not show up, thank goodness!
Echo Rock, Mt Rainier and part of Observation Rock from the Eagle Cliff viewpoint.
Hessong Rock and reflection at Mowich Lake.
