Knowing that it was going to be the last good weather day before the rains came, we knew we had to get out and hit a trail. Mt. Beljica was the winner for us. The road to the mountain was pretty rough going, rougher than we expected. But we got up and down there without a busted oil-plan or anything.. though we did scrape bottom on my 1996 Honda Accord a couple of times. The hike took us past lake Christine, which is a beautiful sub-alpine lake, featuring a couple of tent camping spots right off the trail. Not many critters that we could identify, although we did hear a few birds chirping away. At the top of the mountain, we had a raven fly by pretty close to us - probably as close as 15ft. We also passed by a group of people on horseback. We asked them where they came from. The said, "the other parking lot". We though that was funny. The hike had some seriously steep, dusty and dry spots in the beginning, as well as on the final ascent, but the rest was pretty easy going. Overall time for was about 4 hours. We did take a wrong turn at the last turnoff. It's more of a stay straight than a turn left. We thought the left turn was farther on up. It took us about a mile off course. Could easily be pounded out in about 2.5 hours at a brisk pace.
