Trip Report
Pratt Connector to Pratt River Trail — Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012

I wanted to see the progress made on the Pratt Lake Trail connector since this spring, so headed up the infamous Middle Fork Snoqualmie road. In July the road was in good shape, but now - not so much. The road has reverted to its usual potholed nightmare. I made it to the end in a Honda Civic, but drove most of the way in first gear. Vehicles with larger wheels will do better, but many of the potholes are deep enough to cause problems with even the biggest of SUVs. So be forewarned. Be particularly cautious at the bridges; there are some truly horrendous holes nearby.
Though the road is awful, the newly completed trail is a delight. Mountain views are scarce, but the forest is beautifully verdant during the dark winter months. With essentially no vertical gain, the snow-free miles passed by quickly.
About 2.5 miles in the connector meets up, quite unceremoniously, with the old Pratt Lake trail. There are no signs noting the junction, but it's obvious - the trail suddenly deteriorates to a rocky, brushy, and narrow tread that looks like nobody has trod there for years. I schlepped up a half mile or so before turning back, tired of fighting the wet shrubberies.
If you have the patience to navigate the battle-scarred road, it's a nice easy hike suitable for winter rambling.
