Trip Report

Lake Kelcema Snowshoe — Saturday, Mar. 2, 2013

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Breaking trail in the morning, heading up Deer Creek road towards Kelcema Lake.
A fantastic day! We must have started out much earlier than the other party reporting on their Kelcema Lake trip for this day, since we didn't have any rain, just scattered sunbreaks and snow flurries. We were the first party on the trail that morning, and were really excited to find such good snow conditions. We had expected a few inches of new snow on top of hard-packed, but it wasn't long before we had a foot and a half of soft snow. This is a fairly long trip, but with easy routefinding since you just follow the road. Excepting that you do need to do a bit of routefinding to get from the road to the lake, if someone hasn't already left a clear trail for you.
