Snow levels were low and snowshoes were not needed for the first 2 miles, however, they could have been used shortly after the trail head. We elected to not use them as the switch backs were narrow and didn't allow for great maneuverability. I would recommend micro-spikes until the snow get deep and then strapping on the snowshoes. The trail gets very steep as you approach the hillside meadow, the meadow is beautiful. Beware avalanche conditions, if they are good and visibility is clear continuing up the meadow makes for some amazing views.
