I wanted a 5-8 mile lake hike in the Pass area that wasn't snowed in. Source Lake seemed right, but others had mentioned it wasn't much of a lake, so I opted for Lodge Lake. Well, Lodge Lake isn't much bigger than a pond and access to the water is not east. It is pretty though and the dog managed to figure out a way in. I was the only car at the trailhead and we passed no one else on the trail in or out. There were two sections of snow 1. in the first 100 yards, that's easily walked over. Pay attention, though...I post holed once at an inopportune time and have a knot on my knee and snow burn to show for it. 2. At .83 you'll run into another section of snow that is deeper with potential for dangerous post holing - walking poles recommended at this point.
Quite a bit of water on the trail and I would recommend hiking boots (day hikers are sufficient) over just walking/running shoes. One creek that you needed to cross could be wet without boots.
Bugs, but none bothered me. Nice Spring hike.
