Trip Report

Taylor River - Otter Falls — Saturday, Jul. 6, 2013

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
The access trail to Otter Falls is only marked by a ribbon. Turn left here to Otter Falls. Or go straight for 1/2 mile to Big Creek Falls.
I have read trip reports about this hike that make the directions sound like a trip through a corn maze. Enough already! Drive down Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road to the end. The first couple of miles are paved. The rest is dusty and bumpy; allow for about a 45 minute drive. You have reached the trailhead. There is a good map and a mileage chart at the trailhead. Directions to Big Creek Falls - Walk over the bridge and down Snoqualmie Lake Trail for almost five miles. You have made it to the concrete bridge and Big Creek Falls. Directions to Otter Falls - Walk over the bridge and down Snoqualmie Lake Trail for a bit over four miles. The access trail to Otter Falls is on your left. It is easy to miss because the access trail is basically a wooded soil and bark hillside, whereas the main trail is level gravel and rock. The lake and Otter Falls is a short scramble from the Snoqualmie Lake Trail. Also, the guide book states the access trail is 1/4 mile from Big Creek Falls. It is closer to 1/2 mile, as shown on the mileage chart. So if you miss the access trail on the way to Big Creek Falls, you should be able to find it on your way back. We saw probably 100 hikers on this nice weekend day.
