Pinnacle Lake — Saturday, Jun. 14, 2014

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Great hike! Within the first 15mins on the trail you can see bear lake below. Cool lookout points on the way up. The first 80% of the trail is very muddy. Water on the trail. Lots and lots of exposed roots. I'm glad I wore my hiking boots instead of sneakers. The extra ankle support was nice. The last 20% of the trail is snow. There are spots where the snow looks solid but there is nothing underneath. So you need to be careful where you step. Still lots of streams hollowing out the snow underneath. I fell through the snow up to my waist. Pinnacle lake is awesome. Still very cold up there. About 20 mins on the way down you'll see a bunch of sticks "blocking" the path and a yellow ribbon. It looks like the trail but it is not. You will want to take a sharp left. We didn't realize this and wandered around for 5 mins and had to backtrack.
