Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
I had my 13 year old sister, friend Adam, and his miniature girlfriend with me... And, because of the adventures I have become known for dragging them along on, I was basically told that we had to do this "Level 3" in difficulty hike, for once (as stated by the Central Cascades guidebook). We did the full 12 mile loop from the base all the way to Wellington... Honestly, I would say anti-climatic would describe this hike best... I don't know how this hike was rated a "level 3" in difficulty either, it was generally flat the entire way and insanely easy. There was a lot of beauty though, wildflowers and lush forest lined the trail's sides, which was nice. The tunnels and history was interesting, as well. Worth doing early in the season, but I was definitely expecting more. It was a total letdown when we continued out of - what we were unaware was - Wellington into a parking lot. You could also hear the cars on Hwy 2 whizzing past just about the entire duration of the hike, which doesn't make you feel like you are getting away from much. All in all, I'm glad I got to see the sight, but I would have picked a different hike for myself if I could go back.
