Eagle Lake Fisherman's Trail — Tuesday, Jul. 8, 2014

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Eagle Lake
First up I have to say that this was an amazing hike. I enjoy the more primitive trails, as it shows fewer people use them. This one could use some love especially in the meadows where there are trails all over the place. The biggest downside was it was crazy hot and humid. Take special note that there is no water till you get to the Lake. The trail starts in a very brushy section. It is short lived and soon enough you will be engulfed in a beautiful forest. The trail gradually climbs the valley and if it were not for the crazy heat it would have been seriously enjoyable. Its important to note that there are several blowdowns on this trail. Many are easy to scramble over or around, but a few are more tricky. One in particular about 2 miles from the lake you have to crawl under. Quite fun with a pack. There were very few bugs until you got to the meadows... or should I call it the mudows. The bugs begin there and are CRAZY at the lake. Seriously take a head net and save yourself some sanity. I wish I had known just how bad the bugs were. The mosquitoes were kept at bay with the bug repellant. The flies were only annoying. It was the little bugs that dive bombed your eyeballs that made it just crazy. Even a smoky fire did not keep them at bay. Seriously determined little buggers. When you get the mudows take the right trail, if you go left you will get to stone lake, and yes its a pretty little gem that should be explored. When your at the mudows there will be trails that go off in all directions... pick whatever you think is the best, they all seem to lead to the same place. If you don't wind up muddy, gloppy, and full of black ooze you did something wrong :) The lake was stunning. Seriously amazing hike. Make sure you check out the cabin. I broke the fishing pole on the way in so I cant say how the fishing was. Lots of fish activity on the lake.
