Trip Report

Mount Washington — Saturday, Jul. 12, 2014

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
We tackled Mount Washington-finally! This was a great, unique hike! We arrived at the trailhead at around 7:45AM, and there were only four cars in the parking lot. Wow! I had the printouts of directions, and even photos of the one tricky trail entrance off of someone's wonderful hiking blog. Glad we had them! So let me make this easy for you. You hike up a trail, and you merge with a logging road. You follow that (right), which merges with another trail that comes off from the left (now you're on the Iron Horse Trail). Keep going. Now here's the tricky part. The trail description reflects that there's a rock cairn on the trail on the left that goes up Mount Washington. There was no rock cairn on the day we went on this hike. Thankfully I had photos off that cool person's blog that showed what the trail entrance looked like. The photo attached to this trip report is of that trail! We met a couple of gals later on who walked right on by that trail to the left, and they were lost for two hours. We met a couple of other hikers who also kept on going on the logging road, until they realized that they had missed the trail on the left. So back to the hike...it's wonderful, parts are steep, it's rocky, and it's pretty darn groovy. It flattens out for awhile after you pass the "Mt WA" sign. Yay! This was a very hot day, so we were glad a lot of the trail was shaded. Bring your sunscreen though-you will be out of the shade for parts of the trail! Finally made it to the top-the bugs at the very top were crazy! The rock below that is a better place to eat. I drank two liters of water. We had fun. It was a great workout. Do this hike!!!!! PS We made another rock cairn at the trail that goes into the woods, but who knows if it's still there...
